Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I take classes at your studio?
Our teachers are passionate and regularly attend training sessions to keep them fresh and up to date. Our students are friendly and supportive of each other. Our classes are fun while at the same time disciplined so that students can learn the technique they need to continue on in the world of performing arts.
What ages do you teach?
We have Little Dancer classes that start at age 2 and Combo Classes that range from age 3 to age 6. We have jazz, ballet, hiphop, tap and modern class for ages 7-18.
What should students wear?
Students should wear suitable dancewear which means leotard and tights for girls and snug t-shirt and dance pants for boys. The type of shoes required depends on which forms of dance you are taking. Each teacher might have additional requirements for their classes and students are expected to adhere to those requirements. You will get a handout from your teacher at your first class.
What will students learn in their classes?
Each class begins with a warm-up then progresses through center floor work, across the floor and progressions. Some classes may include barre work and choreography concepts. The younger classes learn important concepts such as following directions, memorizing dance steps and working with other students their age to make something beautiful in addition to learning dance terms and movements and gaining an appreciation for art.
When can my daughter dance on her toes?
Our ballet teachers have worked together to have a set criteria for starting pointe. They have researched respected ballet organizations for their information. Students in Ballet 4 will be given a copy of the list of criteria the first night of the fall session. If your child is not yet at the level of Ballet 4, but you would like to know what the criteria are, you can ask to see a copy of it. Sometime in October or November, each student in Ballet 4 will be individually evaluated. We know that dancers are always anxious to get their first set of pointe shoes, but we want to be sure that there will be no long term harmful effects to their muscles.
